Medical

Naphcare, Inc. is currently the contracted vendor to provide medical and dental health services to inmates who are housed at the jail. Quality health care services are provided in accordance with Minimum Standards for Jails in Ohio and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.  The Health Care Services system has been nationally accredited by the NCCHC since 1980.  The medical staff is on-duty 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-per-week, with a combination of medical professionals including nursing personnel, physicians, emergency medical technicians, a psychiatrist, and a dentist providing health care services.

Physician level sick call is held a minimum of once a week, dental clinic is held weekly, and psychiatrist sessions are held on a weekly basis.  Additional available services include sexually transmitted disease clinics, tuberculosis screening, lab and x-ray services, and patient education programming that includes one-to-one counseling, health care pamphlets and video tapes.

Co-Pay Program
In 1994, the Jail implemented a inmate health care co-payment program.  Co-payments for self-initiated non-emergency medical problems range from $3.00 to $5.00.  However, inmates are never denied health care based on an inability to pay.  Over-the-counter medications, such as acetaminophen and sinus medication are available for purchase through the inmate commissary.

Mental Health
Licensed mental health counselors are available 24 hours daily 7 days-per-week.  Mental health services include a screening during the booking process, suicide prevention programming, and crises intervention.

dentalDental Care
A dentist conducts clinics weekly in the full-service dental office, which includes an x-ray machine, x-ray developer and an autoclave for sterilizing instruments.  The dentist treats abscessed teeth and periodontal disease, fills cavities, and extracts teeth that cannot be saved.

Medication
Pharmacy services are available around the clock.  Only valid prescriptions will be administered and then only upon approval of the jail physician.
